St Bartholomew's was founded in the early thirteenth century, just outside the city of Bristol, and incorporated a surviving Norman hall. It was closed just before the Reformation and some elements of the hall and church are still standing. The substantial excvations which were undertaken on this site are important because so few medieval hospitals have been excavated. This report also includes a study of the history of Bristol's other hospitals.
